"Say women, they will come and they will go...", acrylic on canvas, 2025 . Fleetwood Mac's song, Dreams inspired this painting. The ethereal, other worldly space is occupied by beautiful women of different ages, complexions and  sizes. They move through time, space in a natural setting reflecting the nature of relationships and how people come and go in and out of our lives.

'Dark Angel', 2016, oil on canvas.

A narrative unfolds in this painting as we witness this brooding man/angel with his raven's wing remembering his past. He is comforted by the woman's hand on his shoulder.  His memories are troubled by the foreboding castle and Munch's 'Scream' echoing in his ear.  There is a yin yang kind of balance in this image as the serene females and swans try to temper his angst.

'Maid, Mother and Crone', 2017, oil on canvas. Ancient wisdom, in many matriarchal cultures around the world, honour the stages of womanhood. The young maid looks directly at the viewer at the centre of the image as she steps up from the boat as she arrives on the scene. The wise, elderly Crone stands near a 'gong' announcing the girl's arrival. Mother is pensive in the foreground with a slight confident grin. This painting was inspired by Odilon Redon' s figuratively colorful paintings.

'Mermaid and the Leviathan', 2016, acrylic on canvas with mixed media. An age old story of the mermaids and sirens of the deep, one flees the scene at the top from the massive writhing tentacled arms of the mythic Leviathan at the bottom. Atlantis is inferred by the ancient ruins sunk under the swirling ocean.

'Van Gogh's Daughter', 2017. Oil on canvas. This is an imagined vision of a reconstructed Vincent, made up of several versions of van Gogh's self-portraits, featuring a different head atop a handsome jacket. He sits next to his young,  imagined, ginger headed beauty of a young woman. The daughter he, sadly, never had.

'Ode to Vincent', 2016. Oil on canvas.

Can you observe the parts of Vincent Van Gogh's paintings that make up this image? I combined 4 works and recreated them in oil using small dash like brush strokes like he would. The open window is inspired by the Scandinavian tradition of leaving a window open as someone lays dying so their soul can transition smoothly.  I wanted to honour his spirit and set it free.

'Grecian Memories', 2014, oil on canvas.

I often will use collage as preparatory work for my artworks. In this painting I grouped images from Greek  culture and natural imagery to create a dreamscape . I imagine the stoic Grecian woman  and what scene she would lay her eyes on in the ancient Mediterranean culture.

'Chunk of Sky', 2021, oil on canvas.

Based on a photograph,  this painting aims to showcase a window on a glorious chunk of sky. It was fun to create.

'Frida and Granizo in Coyoacán', 2021, oil on canvas.

Frida Kahlo is one of my muses. She is imagined to be sitting in lovely sitting room with her pet deer. She is looking at the viewer, inviting you into this space.  I imagined the interior complete with wall tapestries, a beamed ceiling, plants, and her beloved doves. This room opens up onto her Coyoacan courtyard complete with the bright blue stucco walls.

'Our Natural World', 2016, acrylic on canvas.

This Mandala is designed with rings of symbolic motifs. All 4 elements of earth, air, water and fire are represented by tree roots, clouds, waves and flames. The wise owl is central and her insistant gaze represents Mother Earth as she peers out at YOU the viewer to remind you to 'walk gently on Mother earth'.

'Get Thee to a Nunnery', 2016, acrylic with mixed media.

This is a mixed media piece featuring images from Rembrandt, architectural cloister photos and that beautiful face all composed and colourized with acrylic glazing and painted details. The narrative features this young, serene beauty pondering her choices between human and divine love. Get Thee to a Nunnery references Hamlet's advice to Ophelia, but here it infers her decision to stay with her love as she remembers their embrace or join the church. The distant Convent beckons her as does the cloistered walkway. A female Sentinel holds a torch near to aid in her seeing the light and make her decision.  What do you think she will choose?

'Birds of a Feather...', 2018, acrylic on canvas.

This is an experimental acrylic painting playing with texture and glazing techniques. After adding the birds, I imagined them nesting in a woman's long hair. She looks as if she is in a dream and imagining her feathered friends.

'My Muses', 2018, oil on canvas.

Everyone has their own muse. Someone who inspires or motivates them in one way or another. It can be a person, a style, a culture, a movement or ideology.  Here Is featured of few of mine, Vincent Van Gogh peeks into the scene at the upper left. A gorgeous Moroccan woman with her ruby headdress looks on. A Buddha sculpture is lush in its bronze patina surface. However, central to the composition sits a young Frida Kahlo. It is copied after her first self-portrait she made for a young boyfriend.  I turn to this image of my Muses almost as an altar to encourage my creative stamina.

'Magical Meeting', 2019, acrylic on canvas.

This image was inspired by the historical figure of Susanna Moodie, a pioneer in Canada. Margaret Atwood wrote about her trials in the new country. This young woman looks out at the viewer as if she knows she is being spied on...her wandering into the wintry forest. She is pleasantly surprised to encounter this lonely fawn nestled in the snow. I created this piece experimenting with alcohol drops on acrylic washes for the background. It reminded me of snow, hence the wintry scene. I saved some of the background to peek through her skirt to harmonize the composition.

Sketch after 'Magical Meeting',  2024. Fineliner and collage. Imagine a quiet, crisp winter walk through the woods. There is a clearing and a small newly born fawn is nestled in the snow pack. It is a sweet surprise for the young girl...can you see the other witnesses of this magical meeting?

Honour, acrylic,  2018.

I painted this image right after I learned a student of mine went to India on a mission to work with women who were healing after being human trafficked in the sex industry.

'Romeo and Juliet', acrylic on canvas, 2018.

I had fun with this experimental abstracted image. It was sold at an Art Auction raising funds for a Women and Children's Charity.

'Owl Mandala', acrylic on canvas, 2018.

'Sun Goddess', mixed media, ink, collage. 2023

'Stranger Things'', 2023, watercolour, fineliner.

This is inspired by the science fiction series. The layered washes of colour using wet on wet techniques creates a mysterious landscape that reacts to the figure. A monumental perspective transforms the space into an otherworldly dimension.  The all-seeing eyes hovers over the entire scene in the stormy sky.

'Eye See You', watercolour and ink. 2018

'All Women Bear the Burdens', watercolour and ink, 2022

'Blooms', watercolourand ink pen. 2022.

'Radiant Frida', 2020, fineliner and gray ink washes.

A stunning Frida Kahlo peers out at the viewer confidently as she is surrounded with her iconic and symbolic totems. Her pet dove, ancient Mexican sculptures, flaming heart and beloved roses. I have deeply admired the life and trials of Frida Kahlo's story.  She used her pain to create such truthful, tragic  beauty in her artwork and everything she touched.

'Apollo', 2024. Acrylic on canvas.

This a portrait of my youngest son, Apollo. It is from a selfie he took in the back seat of our car after a soccer game. I altered the photo using a filter to fragment the colour and texture. It contemporizes the portrait and speaks to his youth and energy.

'Rhiannon', mixed media collage and ink. 2023

Floral Frida, watercolour and ink. 2024

'Madonna of Infertility and Hope, oil on canvas. 2025.

The iconic Madonna figure is revered for her ability to birth a child, often cradling her beloved infant in her arms. Women have choices sometimes however,  not everyone is fortunate enough to be fertile. Infertility is a painful and timely topic which is heartbreaking and personal.  Here this Madonna cradles a vase of beautiful, lush flowers instead of a babe. These blooms symbolize hope for her future and her ability to someday be a mother.

'My Memory Escapes Me', 2024, mixed media.

My mother suffered with Alzheimers for the last 5 years of her life. As the disease progressed she slowly shed her memories of her language, people and daily living habits. This piece is dedicated to her. It is such a cruel disease and makes for a long, sad goodbye to the person you knew so well.

'Sunflower Head',2024, watercolour and mixed media.

This painting is inspired by a collage design I made. The cheerful colour scheme is sunny and bright. The scene is playful and child like in some ways. The motif of the sunflower and Van Gogh spiral designs lend energy to the disjointed landscape. Sunflowers for heads adds to the quirkiness of the image.

Open the Door, mixed media, 2023.

'Women's Wisdom', pen and ink and paper collage.

'Be Fearless', mixed media collage. 2022. This is a good example of one of the ways I create images for canvas. It is a mixed media composition which lends it self to many possibilities for a painted artwork. I will 'shop' around the collage with different shaped viewfinder to frame out the final image.

'Mermaid Shadow', 2016, oil on canvas.

Viewed from underneath, the mermaid strikes a silhouette against the light above the water's surface.

'Frida's Spirit Babe', 2024, mixed media.

This collage includes a self portrait of Frida Kahlo. She is pointing her finger to a baby's chest branding it with a life force. From this all things spring to life, botanical, seed pods etc. Frida had a difficult time trying to have a child and so I wished one for her. She was known to be a doting auntie and dedicated to her menagerie of animal companions.

'Any Dreams You'd Like to Sell?', 2023, mixed media. This collage of print media, coloured pencil and ink is inspired by Fleetwood Mac's iconic song 'Dreams'.

In the Doghouse, watercolour, ink, 2023. This a playful, nonsensical romp through space combining daylight, waterscapes and creatures. I love how the dog stares out at the viewer anchoring  the composition.

What makes you Brave!? Graphite and mixed media. 2021.  I admire Malala and her tremendous bravery standing up for a girl's right to education.

Belle Paris, mixed media, 2023. Paris and all its art history are combined as a memory map of my times exploring there. Famous artworks, the Seine and its storied past are linked by paper artifacts and drawings in ink, watercolour and pencil crayons.

Dream Women, mixed media collage, 2023.

"They found it behind the wall, hidden but not forgotten...the note with its scratchy words was of no help. The dream women took me to the stairs and helped me see that I must use the key. Perhaps, I should tell others about it...perhaps not." E.J. Mordasky
